No doubt I am a very big Aaliyah fan. "4 Page Letter" is one of my favorite songs from the superstar. Timbaland and Aaliyah made a deadly combo. I was stunned to hear about her death and really miss her music. Apparently, a movie is in the works about the singer and R&B singer Keisha Chante is supposed to play Aaliyah. R.I.P Aaliyah!! You are surely missed...
Happy Thanksgiving to you all from Stayondeck.com! Enjoy your family and friends. Most of all, be thankful for everything that you have right now, especially life. Give to the less fortunate this year if you are able to give. Here's a video from the legendary Tupac Shakur titled, "Dear Mama." This is one of my favorite Tupac joints. Enjoy reminiscing on the video and enjoy mama's cookin' this Thanksgiving too. LOL!! R.I.P Pac!!! You are definitely one of the greatest rappers of all time and we miss you!!! This is Rowrytah signing out...
This is one of my favorite songs. D' Angelo did a really good job remaking this Smokey Robinson classic. I love this version just as much as the original. I am definitely a big D' Angelo fan and can't wait until he comes out with a new album. Enjoy reminiscing on this classic...
The first joint is LL Cool J "Loungin (Remix)" ft. Total. I used to love this song. That joint came out when LL Cool was still doing it pretty big. With the sales of his new album, is it time for him to throw in the towel? His new album Exit 13 sold about 44,000 copies in the first week. It had LL Cool J thinking twice about giving up because he was pissed that Jessica Simpson even did better than him during the first week. Haha!! Anyway, Happy Reminiscing!!!
Also, check out "Kissin' You" by Total. Remember when they used to be with Bad Boy? I miss those days. This song was produced by the talented Raphael Saadiq who released a new album a few weeks ago. I wonder what happened to Total? If anyone remembers, let me know!!
The other half of Outkast recently told Rolling Stone Magazine that his upcoming album will drop later this year or even early next year. There will not be many features on the project because he says he usually likes to do things himself. He also stated that it will be most likely be much like The Love Below. That is another album that I am excited about. Andre is so creative with his music and I love that. I thought I would go ahead and post one of my favorite songs from him titled "Prototype" as a throwback joint. This song was on The Love Below, which was his part of Outkasts' joint album together.
Can you believe this song was released about 10 years ago? I can't believe that time has passed like that. Anyway, this song is still hot and is one of my favorite Juvenile songs. This song is also a tribute to the great city of New Orleans....
At Your Best (You are Love) Remix is probabaly one of my favorite Aaliyah tracks. I loved this song when it came out and I still do. It is actually an Isley Brothers song. When this song came out, I was about about 13 years-old and singing this song like crazy! Haha! The song was included on her first album, but not this remix version though. She was working with R. Kelly then and we all know that he was robbing the cradle too. Let me know if you used to like song and R.I.P Aaliyah!!!
I included another throwback in this post. The song below comes from the good ol' 80's, which I really miss. "I Wanna Be Your Man" is definitely an all-time classic! The lead singer of the band, Roger was famous for using the vocoder and talk-box. Sadly, he died in 1999 by the hands of his brother at 47 years-old. He and his brother got into a fight on the outside of a studio and he was shot in the chest by his brother Larry. His brother then shot himself in the head afterwards. R.I.P to this true music legend. Let me know if you used to love this song!
To me this song is a classic! This is another song that I loved back in High School. "Twisted" came out in 1996 and I was just about to be in the 9th or 10h grade I think. Ahhhhh!!! I can't even remember. Haha! But anyway, I used to listen to this song over and over. The CD was hot too! I could listen to the CD all the way through. My family members were always playing Keith Sweat. He is still doing his thing too. He just released an album earlier this year. Enjoy the flashback video and leave some comments on the song!
This used to be one of my favorite groups. I loved the way that they sang and harmonized. Unfortunately, Static (R.I.P) passed away earlier this year. He was very talented and wrote some greats songs for Aaliyah (R.I.P), Missy, etc. This song brings me back to a lot of memories. Enjoy this video!
Master P has come along from shouting uhhhhhhh to now being a devoted father and businessman. He did his music thang, got himself an acting gig on his son's show, and has a clothing line. Now, he is conquering black entertainment television. Yup! That's right! P Miller now has his own television channel, which is devoted to black entertainment. The channel is called BBTV, which stands for Better Black Television. BBTV is going to be more positive than BET I guess. I am not knocking him for trying to do positive things. He has really changed from those "Bout It, Bout It" days. An old Master P throwback track just came to mind. Remember when he came out with "Ice Cream Man?" This was his first track from what I remember and it used to be the jam, even though it didn't really make sense. Haha! Do you ever get those moments when you used to like something so much and then when you watch it years later you realize that it didn't make sense? Well, this is one of those moments! Haha! Look at them selling some ice cream out the back of their car. This video was so corny, but I gotta admit it was the jam when I was in high school. Let me know what you think!
This used to be the jam. All I can say is that I miss the 90's. I think I was in high school when this came out and of course everybody was jammin' to this one. Let me know if you remember this.
This video goes out to stayondeck.com reader Nicole. She said that this is one of her favorite songs from the past. It is one of mine too. "Don't Walk Away" came out in about 1992. I remember my sister had this CD and I would always borrow it from her. I actually just got my first CD player around this time! Haha! A CD player was so much better than tapes that you had to rewind and fast forward. Oh, and remember how they would get stuck in the tape deck??? I don't miss those days! Anyway, enjoy this video from Jade. And to Nicole....this song is for you! Let me know what you guys think!
Now, I know that everyone remembers this one! This song came out in 1991. I didn't know this song came out that early in the 90's. I think when this song came out, sagging blew up to a whole new level. I remember a lot of the guys in school getting sent home because their pants were backwards or the teacher's could see their underwear. I used to have one of the biggest crushes on these guys, especially the light skinned one. I even had a big Kris Kross poster hanging on my wall and I used to give it a kiss every night. Shhhhhh...Don't tell anyone! Haha! I think I still have that poster in storage somewhere. I wonder what happened to these guys? They didn't last once Jermaine Dupri and ghost writers stopped writing their rhymes. Let me know if you guys liked this song back in the day....
I took it back to the 80's with this throwback joint. Many of you probably recognized this song on the movie Love and Basketball. Well, this song was a major hit back then and was a hit in the clubs everywhere. This song is a true party classic. I thought I would post this song because it is friday and usually means it is payday. I know I got paid today. Thank God! Haha! Everybody is making plans for their weekend to kick back and relax and possibly hit up a party or two. Everytime this joint is played in the clubs, it still get's people dancing. Enjoy the throwback today and let me know if you remember this jam. The rumor is that Keith Sweat actually passed up this track before it got into the hands of Johnny Kemp.
You guys know I love the throwbacks. Check out this joint by Subway Featuring 702 titled "This Lil' Game We Play." This joint came out in the 90's, which is one of my favorite eras in music. This song is the first time that 702 appeared on the scene. R.I.P Orish Grinstead, who passed away months ago from kidney failure. Orish was an original member of the group 702 and her twin sister was Irish, who is also a member of the group. Orish later left the group, but was reportedly working on an album with her sister when she passed away. The group Subway was based out of Chi Town and was founded by New Edition group member Michael Bivins, who put 702 on the map. This song is definitely a classic slow jam and brings back a lot of memories. Let me know if any of you remember the song.
Ya'll know I love reminiscing on the music of the past! I am aware that stayondeck.com reader Bre is a fan of Crucial Conflict's song "Hay" so today this throwback joint is dedicated to her! I remember seeing this song on BET's Rap City and I think Joe Clair was hosting the show at the time this video came out. I used to love this song too, which has a Parliament sample in it. Remember everybody was knockin' their heads to this back then???!!! I wonder what happened to Crucial Conflict anyway. If anyone knows, let me know! Haha! Anyway, enjoy the video everyone and again shout to Bre!
Remember this video "He's Mine" by Mokenstef? I was in high school when this song came out. There were a lot of fights at school back then! Haha! All of the girls were like "He's Mine! He's Mine!" I heard girls that even did not have a man shouting, "He's Mine!" They were just saying it just to be saying it. Check out this throwback video and let me know if you remember it.
This song was included on Donell Jones's first CD. This song brings back a lot of memories. I was in the 9th grade when this came out. I posted both the original version of this song and the remix. I am sure that a lot of you are familiar with that famous sample on that remix. The beat on the remix is "Computer Love" by Zapp and Roger, which is definitely a classic song. Go back into memory lane and enjoy the video!
